2018 TORONTO PROJECT
The Wallace Toronto Foundation will host its first ever Toronto Project in Bratislava, SK and surrounding Areas
The Wallace Toronto Foundation is pleased to announce its partnerships with Detský domov Studienka (Children’s Home of Studienka), Stredisko sociálnych služieb Petržalka (Social Services Center of Petržalka) and Základná škola Fándlyho (Fándly Primary School) in Pezinok. The project will take place on September 8th, with a commencing Fireside on the 7th. Information regarding the partner organizations, and the work involved at each location can be found below:
Detský domov Studienka
Founded in 1951, Detský domov Studienka is not only the oldest facility, but the only of its kind in Bratislava. Their staff of nurses, psychologists, caretakers, social workers and professional parents work tirelessly to fulfill the home’s mission of promoting the creation and existence of alternative family care for children in a variety of situations. More information can be found on the organization’s website.
In the Wallace Toronto Foundation’s efforts to aide this organization in reaching their aims, about 40 volunteers will be participating in:
- Yard work
- Repairing large planters on terraces
- Planting flowers
- Painting interior rooms and an exterior fence
- Disinfecting toys etc.
- Cleaning, repairing and painting the playground
- Window washing
- Tree trimming
- Creative painting
While a wonderful and exciting project to participate in, for the consideration of the heavily-disabled children who receive care at this facility, as well as the potentially unsafe environment for children, we ask that families with small children choose to volunteer at the Základná škola Fandlyho, which promises to be very family-friendly.
Stredisko sociálnych služieb Petržalka (SSS)
Located in the most densely populated residential area in Central Europe, SSS Petržalka offers their services as a care facility for the sick and the elderly, as well as a refuge for families and children.
Around 40 Volunteers will be:
- Removing bushes and other plants from a flower bed to make way for a future seating area
- Landscaping (evening out paths to make it easier for clients to walk around the facility)
- Repairing flower beds
- Window washing
- Lawn care
Additionally, working with SSS Petržalka will be an exciting and rewarding experience, as the employees and clients are very welcoming and open towards those whose service takes the form of spending quality time with them.
Základná škola Fándlyho
Pezinok, a small town located just outside of Bratislava, is home to Základná škola Fándlyho, a primary school from 1st-9th grade. The school aims to provide students with a safe, healthy, intellectually and emotionally stimulating environment with quality teachers and caretakers. The also seek to enable students to develop skills, abilities and understanding that prepare them for further education, and will allow them to live and work in this ever-changing world.
About 20 volunteers from the Wallace Toronto Foundation will be helping this organization by:
- Creating new flower beds
- The care and maintenance of existing flower beds
- Weeding
- Raking
- Trimming trees
- Possibly even renewing and repairing the old track
This location promises to be family-friendly, as there are many jungle-gyms and areas where children can play.
We also ask that volunteers without young children register to work at one of our other exciting locations in order to give this opportunity to families with children.
As we get closer to the project, more information will be posted. For now, you can help by donating to the Wallace Toronto Foundation, or by registering as a volunteer.
